Beaverhead County Ranges Report Strong Growth Despite Water Shortage
Frequent rains over two months yielded exceptionally good range conditions across Beaverhead County with lush grass, especially in the Big Hole basin. Haying delays in lower valleys due to rain contrast with below-average second cutting because of limited storage irrigation water. Summer showers aided Beaverhead National Forest, logging only one major fire from lightning on the Fourth of July. No man-caused fires of consequence have been reported this year, per forest officials.

Warren Shaw reports goods worth over 300 dollars missing after thieves used chalk bluff tracks and an old car to reach an impassable main entrance. They took guns sleeping gear enamelware cooking utensils dishtowels groceries a saddle a silver mounted bridle and chaps. The theft occurred without haste by kerosene lamp light.

Gold Discovery Site Visited by Excursionists
A Dillon group of about 25 toured Virginia City last Saturday visiting the dredge the site of Montana s first gold discovery and the museum. Lyman Bennet guided a town inspection and they passed Robbers Roost en route to Twin Bridges where Davey led a tour of the Orphans Home. Credit goes to Dr Albright for the trip s success and local golfers presented included Jack Gilbert who shot 74 in Anaconda.
