Bozeman man survives river plunge after truck goes off road
John Dunnigan narrowly escaped death when his truck blew a tire on the Butte Three Forks road and plunged 150 feet into the Jefferson River. The vehicle rested in 20 feet of water after drifting downstream 150 feet. Dunnigan crawled out, swam to shore, and was rescued by a passing motorist. He was taken to Three Forks for treatment and was not seriously hurt. Sheriff Bruce and Officer Jones guarded the scene to manage traffic. The truck, pulled from the river by a Three Forks wrecker, was likely a total loss. Dunnigan works for Modern Cleaners of Bozeman.
