Montana Wool Market Says 75 Percent Sold At Good Prices
E A Gray of Butte who represents the Chicago and Northwestern in Montana says between 75 and 80 percent of the 1922 Montana clip has sold at 30 to 41 cents a pound. He estimates the 1922 Montana wool crop at 15 to 16 million pounds with 20 to 26 percent still unsold. Gray notes no wool is currently being sold, most unsold stock held by growers or consigned to the National Wool Warehouse and Storage company of Chicago. He cites a June 3 sealed bid sale at Deer Lodge where about 750000 pounds offered at 37 to 42.4 cents were refused. He predicts tariff action may lift prices and warns the American wool crop may be short this year.
