Futures of Tungsten Industry Hinge on Bill Passage
Montana tungsten and fluor spar industries face collapse without approved bill and funding. Minerals Engineering Co at Dillon employs over 100 with $648000 payroll and $638000 in taxes last year. Fluorspar mine at Hamilton hires 30 to 50 workers, pays $3600 to $4500 yearly, and paid $75000 county taxes. Prospects include new siling near Darby if the bill passes. Eisenhower vetoes similar bill last year but administration leans toward current measure. Senator Murray argues passage is vital for small mines and national defense needs.
