Beaverhead Boys to Attend Montana Legion Boys State

Beaverhead county youths will join 300 Montana juniors Aug 15 to 24 at State Normal College for the American Legion Boys State citizenship training under Eugene W. Savage and staff. Highlights include a new law school, visual government training, legislative procedure practice, trips to Bannack, and the Governor's Ball on Aug 23. Sponsors include local Masons, Legion posts, Rotary, Kiwanis, Eagles, and Lima high school.

Funeral held for Charles Ellsworth Stickney

Funeral services for Charles Ellsworth Stickney were held Friday in the Brundage chapel with Rev J Thompson Baker and Mrs Blackburn officiating. Interment followed in Lawrence cemetery, Monroe township, Ogle county. Born October 12 1863 in Ogle county Minnesota he lived in Minnesota South Dakota and finally Dillon Ama where he was known. He is survived by two sons four daughters eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren plus siblings and other relatives. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Masonic lodge.

Dillon Resident Claims Mrs Lenna Halladay R C Halladay Widow

Mrs Lenna Halladay widow of the late R C Halladay died Monday at her home in Alhambra California. Remains are being shipped to Dillon for arrival next Friday morning. Funeral at Brundage chapel Friday at 4 p.m. with Rev James Dota officiating and Mizpah Chapter Eastern Star attending. Interment at Mountain View cemetery beside her husband. Her son will accompany the body to Dillon. Mrs Halladay was an esteemed resident who came to Dillon soon after the city’s founding.

J Clarence Wall 68 longtime Beaverhead county resident died last Thursday night at his Chehalis Washington home after a monthlong illness His body was brought to Dillon for burial Requiem high mass was said at St Rose Catholic Church Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery Pallbearers were Hubert Flynn Joe Dowling Sherman Hughes Amos Hansen Bart Hungate and Ray Martinell He was born in Ogden Utah the eldest child of Joseph and Mrs Wall and lived in Dell Lima and Dillon He worked for Union Pacific railroad and later Washington Machinery Company He leaves a widow Lillian who died in 1942 a brotherinlaw and sister James Mansfield Grant and his sisterinlaw and brotherinlaw W N Bichler former Armstead residents He was a member of the Dillon Neighbors of Woodcraft

Registered Shoot Planned by Dillon Gun Club

Dillon Gun Club members met to plan a registered shoot on September 18 19 for the R M Barrett trophy now held by Robert Poore of Butte. Proceeds will add money from tickets on a new over and under shotgun. Elks team to represent the club at the Helena state shoot July 16 17 18. June rainfall in Beaverhead county tops normal levels

June precipitation totaled 4.68 inches in Beaverhead county, surpassing long term normals per L S Osborne at Montana State Normal College. Rain fell on 19 days with 1.12 inches on June 23, delaying haying and prompting about 500 workers to join alfalfa cutting as July approaches.

Ceremony to mark laying cornerstone at Baptist church

The Baptists will lay the cornerstone of their new church during a 6 30 p m service next Sunday July 11. Transient dies in Butte after brief stay

John Wagner, a Casper Wyoming native who arrived two months ago, died Monday in a Butte hospital. His body has been moved to Brundage funeral home for burial arrangements, with authorities unable to locate any relatives.

Well Known Dillon Man Claimed by Heart Attack

Soren O. Sorenson, 60, a World War I veteran and longtime Dillon resident, died Tuesday at home from a sudden heart attack after a year of declining health. Born May 30, 1888 in Malling Denmark, he came to America as a youth and later settled in Beaverhead county. He leaves Lena Sorenson and three sons with families in Dillon and Portland, and three daughters in Dillon. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. from Brundage chapel.

Burial of John Price Held Today

Funeral services for Pvt. John T. Price who was killed in action in the South Pacific were held at Brundage funeral home with Rev. James M. Hunter officiating. Graveside rites by Erwin Paul post of Lima VFW and interment at Mountain View. City business suspended 2 to 3 pm in his honor. Price, born December 18 1916 in Pickens South Carolina, spent much of his life near Dell. He was a Lima high school student at enlistment. his mother Mary I. Price and brother Harold live in Missoula, with other relatives in Wyoming and Helena.

Secretaries Named for Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce

Leonard P. ONeill of Missoula has taken over as secretary of the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce in Dillon succeeding W M Murfin who resigned to enter business. ONeill studied advertising and public relations at Montana State University and spent years in Coast Guard Intelligence. He is a native of Billings and was welcomed by local business leaders led by President Lambert Eliel. Mrs Murfin had served as acting secretary after Murfin’s resignation.

Ballots mailed to chamber members list eight candidates for the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Ballots must be returned by Saturday July 10. Four new directors will be chosen from the eight on a separate ballot, for a two year term. Current terms include Lovell, White, Gleed and Cottom. City approves downtown loading zones and fees

Dil lon enacts a new parking ordinance effective July 1 establishing clearly marked loading zones in the business district. Private cars may stop three minutes for loading or unloading while a $60 annual fee applies to businesses for a 24 foot frontage loading area and a 30 minute limit.
