Moonshine Moonshiners in Arizona Hideout Located by Sheriff
Sheriff Skeets Witt of Greenlee County tracked a pair of copper miners who built an elaborate underground moonshine operation on the Gila river bank below Clifton. They sank a 32 foot shaft and a 20 foot tunnel with a hidden 80 gallon still, water pumped from the river, and a cemented tunnel mouth. The sheriff seized 40 gallons of moonshine and pledged to enlarge the setup rather than leave it intact.
