Crow Indian land drawing underway in Billings

A Montana Daily Record dispatch reports six hundred names drawn by noon for Crow Indian lands in a Billings tent near the Stapleton dock. Commissioner Richards of Washington presided with Helena and Billings figures among the early entries as 2,000 names expected today.

Beavershead County Sheep Clip Surpasses One and a Half Million Pounds

Shearing nearly finished in Beaverhead County with an anticipated clip above 1.5 million pounds. Last year yielded 1,429,311 pounds at $281,171.21, the county’s highest price per pound at 22 cents. This year's sales are just beginning, with limited contracts, including KE D Selway at 21 cents and Woods Livestock Co. of Salt Lake, about 800,000 pounds, reportedly sold to H S Aalest for J Koshland Co. Boeton, price around 23 cents.

The June 1906 report by voluntary weather observer J. K. Monroe records a mean temperature of 56.2 degrees with a high of 89 on the 12th and a low of 33 on the 8th and 20th. Precipitation totaled 2.62 inches, 10.14 inches for the first half of 1906, with 11 clear days, 8 cloudy and 11 partly cloudy. Dillon Bannack and Big Hole Transportation Co launches mail service

The Dillon Bannack and Big Hole Transportation Co began operations last Sunday and now carries mail between Dillon and Fox with intermediate points. Will S. Tash is manager. The fleet is new and ships from St Louis on the 25th. Four horses per stage. service includes freight and passengers with prompt delivery and schedules as their motto.

Pioneer Prospector Jack Wagner Laid To Rest

A Dillon group gathered at the county poor farm to honor Jack Wagner a lifelong prospector born 1883 in Albany New York. He died after a bronchitis illness at the county hospital and was buried at Mountain View cemetery with old comrades arranging the funeral life and ties.

Argenta Copper Venture Advances on Iron Mountain Claim

In Argenta district the Butte Argenta company pushes rapid development on the Iron Mountain claim under lease and bond. The tunnel now extends over 500 feet with three shifts at 15 feet daily and a projected contact tap within 169 to 200 feet. A new Argenta Dillon Copper Mining company forms with nine claims and $500,000 capital, listing 12 incorporators.

Associate Justice Holloway and Chief Justice Brantley affirm the constitutionality of bounty laws in the Terrett habeas corpus matter. Terrett, charged with forgery in Rosebud County for allegedly raising a county warrant, seeks to invalidate the statute and the information. Engelbaugh Ban Returns Home After Prolonged Hospital Stay

Word from Wm. Engelbaugh of Salt Lake confirms the ban has left the hospital in that city. He has been hospitalized for several months after an accident that broke one leg. He expects to return to Dillon in a few weeks.

Demand Exceeds Supply in Beaverhead County Horses

C A Smith sold 138 head of horses in June for $11,430 while buying about 50 head for $4,800. He predicts July will be even busier as demand outstrips local supply, with eastern buyers slow to arrive.

Dillonites Initiated into Elk Lodge in Virginia City

A group of Dillonites joined the B P O Elks lodge at Alder Gulch in Virginia City last Saturday. Notable newcomers include A L Stone J B Poindexter Harry T Poindexter J H Gilbert Lieut Gov E L Norrin Albert Stamm and Dr F M Poindexter. They joined many Madison county candidates amid a grand banquet for about 100 members. The Dillon group praised Virginia hospitality and returned enthusiastic about the lodge.

No Agreement In Losee Case At Long Beach

A San Diego dispatch reports the Losee bribery case at Long Beach ended with a jury disagreeing. Losee, formerly of Anaconda Montana, was released on bail pending a new trial by a new jury. The dispute arose over a $1000 bribe from Charlea W. Corbaley, manager of the Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Coast.
