Forests of Montana Not for Sale State Opinion
Attorney General L A Foot on January 19 says legislature set aside timber lands for state forest purposes and that Chapter 179 of 1926 enshrines a policy to keep state forests for timber and crops. Applications to sell lake shores or use them for private residences are rejected as these lands must remain state forests with timber production and watershed protection as primary.

Walker Discusses 1926 Montana Assessment Rolls
Billings Jan. 21 The state board of equalization may fail to sustain public utilities valuations if county assessment rolls drop by 35 to 40 million, says chairman J W Walker to county commissioners. He notes livestock and land values have fallen since 1920 while utilities are barely cut. He questions the honor system of levying taxes and urges closer attention to equalization next summer amid a supreme court ruling on county responsibility. The convention also hears about highway funding from Montana Automobile Association leaders and a plan to split automobile tax revenue between highways and counties.
