Fort Walsh kept peace on border at Cypress Hills fort
In Montana's early days the Northwest Mounted Police aided by Chouteau county sheriffs kept order near the international border. Fort Walsh, founded 1875 near Cypress Hills, saw Sioux and Cree activity, a notable insult at council when a squaw was introduced to Sitting Bull, and heroic actions by Inspector Walsh to avert violence. The post hosted buffalo hunts, horse races, and gatherings of mixed-blood communities, growing to a large garrison by 1876 and peaking in 1882 as the biggest mounted police post.

Correcting Soil Acidity: Lime Ratings for Elevating pH
For correcting soil acidity one ton of burned lime equals about one and a half tons of stacked lime or two tons of ground limestone if all forms share the same purity. This equivalence helps farmers choose among lime forms based on supply and handling considerations.
