Montana lawmakers grant breaks and pay hikes in week two
In Helena the 30th Montana Legislature advanced bills for increased old age assistance to 60 a month with federal match, higher payments for the needy blind, and tax refunds for veterans. Measures would give county workers a half holiday, raise deputy salaries, and extend gas tax refunds. Greater Montana University sought federal research participation, and a health inspection bill for meat was proposed. The session also eyed state fairs, fireworks repeal, liquor tax stamp rumors, arson laws, and parent liability for minor crimes.
