Elk Drum Corps Host at Dance Saturday Night
Dillon Elks lodge drum and bugle corps hosted a city hall dance drawing one of the season's largest crowds. The corps paraded through the business district and at the Normal College gym, with Elks chorus vocal numbers Claudia Faust tap dance and Baxter Tonrey orchestra providing music.

Lima student wins Union Pacific scholarship for 1930
Gus Rody of Lima has been awarded Union Pacific's 1930 scholarship for outstanding student in the Smith Hughes agricultural department at Beaverhead County High School. The award is based on 45 percent project work, 35 percent scholastic standing, and 20 percent character and leadership.

Five Dillon basketball teams in three days entertain locals
Dillon fans enjoyed a packed three day stretch as five Dillon quintets played at Normal gym. Normal college Bulldogs dropped both games to Ricks College while the Beavers beat Lima 41-21 and Beaverettes rolled past Whitehall 42-4. Ricks Vikings beat Normal in two games with sharp passing and accurate shooting.

Booster club to stage annual winter vaudeville show
HB Booster club announces the Normal college annual winter show to be held in the college auditorium Friday evening January 30. Ten acts from college classes and organizations plus special stunts will feature sparkling comedy dancing tuneful music and novelty acts by the Chanticleer club journalism group.

The Dillon Rotary Club sponsored an eight page booklet on the Montana Normal College detailing facilities for training teachers. It features a color frontispiece and images of the campus buildings and residence halls. The state inventory value cited is 737612 69 for the college plant plus about 275000 for training school buildings. The booklet was distributed to legislators Rotarians and other organizations and printed at The Dillon Examiner shop.

Dillon basketball will host two games this week end. Friday night the Beaverettes 42 4 victors over Whitehall meet Virginia City at home. Saturday the Ag clubs of Deer Lodge and Beaver Lodge meet at the high school gym in Sheridan. Normal College Bulldogs travel to Billings for a three game series with Billings Polytechnic and Eastern Montana Normal.

City Books Opened for Voters in Dillon Election
registration books for the city election in April are now open at the Clerk and Recorder Albert Baker's office and will stay open 46 days before the election. All city voters who did not vote in the November general election may mark their ballots. The office added 791 names from the first following November, with about 400 of those nonvoters residing in Dillon.

Beaverhead ranches continue to acquire prize bulls from the Ogden livestock show. John Peterson bought a carload of champion bulls last week for prominent Prairie Tancher. Eaverhead post of the American Legion will be honored with a national citation for distinguished work during the past year at the district meeting in Helena on Saturday January 31. Delegates will be chosen at the Dillon post's regular meeting at the Andrus hotel with Commander E. K. Fairbanks announcing new committees. A nine member Dillon committee representing Rotary club Commercial Service and Beaverhead Mining association will attend the forthcoming district 12 meeting in Helena. Guy G Emery Montana Association manager spoke on the association’s focus on inside development and outside advertising as a state program.

AYMOND B. McCANDLES is reported dead in York Nebraska at 41. A former athletic coach at Beaverhead County High School in Dillon he died January 8 from heart leakage and stomach ulcers blamed on gas exposure in World War I. He came to Dillon from Central City Nebraska and coached until the war era.

County Graphite Deposit Valuable, Says Engineer
Utte Jan 19 L D Frink a Beaverhead County mining engineer spoke on Graphite in Montana before Beaverhead County Mining association at Montana School of Mines. Frink outlined a graphite deposit along Medicine Lodge and Muddy creeks showing a 200 ft mineralized width and over 2 000 ft continuous length with surface and underground work. Samples average 13 percent graphitic flake carbon versus US ore typically under 5 percent. Mining could proceed with flotation, offering large tonnages and low-cost processing.
