Local Tuberculosis Seal Sale Reaches $429 Total

Miss Evelyn Rimel reports the Dillon tuberculosis seal sale has reached 429.10 dollars. Late payments and unreturned seals are still being accepted. The campaign thanks residents, businesses, and student groups including the Radio Quiz kids and Girls' Athletic club for their support.

Dillon Man Parsell Passes Away After Illness

Francis M. Parsell 38 a former Dillon resident died last Friday at Galen after several months illness. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs H H Parsell of Dillon widow and three children brother Austin Parsell of Dillon sister Mrs Jack Parrent of Great Falls. Funeral Monday at Brundage chapel with Rev J A Meeke of Grace Methodist church officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery. Beavers Set to Face Lima and Whitehall in Home Stretch

After back to back losses on the road, the Beavers seek a pair of wins this Friday and Saturday at home. They lost 41 29 to Park City and 47 19 at Anaconda with Olafon leading Anaconda and Blaz second for Copperheads. The Dillon B squad game against Harrison was canceled due to severe weather.

Girl Scout council selects officers at annual meeting

At the annual meeting held at Mrs. Fred Bridenstine’s home Mrs. Bridenstine was elected Girl Scout commissioner for the coming year replacing retiring commissioner Mrs. P. J. Lovell. New officers include deputy commissioner Mrs. A. L. McArthur and secretary-treasurer Mrs. Arthur Bay.

Wise River Man Re-elected to Board of Directors

At the ninth annual Bozeman Production Credit Association meeting in Bozeman W E Westlake of Bozeman and John Lucas of Ringling were re elected for three year terms. Bulldogs Depart on Road Trip to Open Conference Play

Coach William Straugh leads the Normal college Bulldogs on a trip to Havre to face Northern Montana Normal in the season opener. The squad includes Ray Conger Haner Buckmaster Howard Smith Jack Mattingly Bill McMannis Bob Rott and J W McCracken with Hansen ill. Carroll College Saints host Helena games and the team next plays Montana School of Mines at home January 29 and 30.

President's Birthday Ball Set at City Hall

Plans are under way for the annual President's Birthday Ball at city hall on Saturday night January 30. The Dillon Volunteer Fire Department sponsors the event to benefit national and local infantile paralysis funds. This year the ball substitutes for the draftee party for February selectees, with the February group set to leave for Butte on February 1. C M Casterline is acting chairman for the firemen.

Gas Coupon Deadlines and Tire Inspections Notice

Motorists are reminded that No 3 coupons in the basic A gas line ration books expire at midnight Thursday January 21. After that date first page coupons are invalid for gas purchases. Inspect tires at official OPA stations by March 31 and switch to six month inspections for this group. postponement of mileage inspections does not delay needed service.

Delegates Elected for State Mining Meeting Friday

Beaverhead Mining association named delegates O A Bergeson J E Kelly William Gardner Glen Decker and M J Ambrose to attend the state meeting which opened yesterday A plan to seek federal aid for a survey of the Argenta district to locate strategic metals was approved A committee of Vince Schmittroth and Glen Decker will draft a resolution petitioning the government for the survey.

Rotary meeting highlights Dillon city issues and plans

Dillon police chief Patrick outlined budget limits on permanent improvements and a water system plan pending priority funding. The city has a satisfactory finances with little debt, graveling progress on Badger pass surfaces, and potential extension of the gravel project. Miss Ardella Lanner's accordion solos accompanied by group singing closed the evening chaired by Bert Megquier.

Eliel's and Warner's Lead High Bowling Scores

Eliel's and Warner's posted the top team totals 2723 and 2644 in a two day bowling stretch. Roscoe Cornell led Monday trio with 561 in three games while Bob Warner totaled 534 across three games. Ladies doubles were won by Emma Bates and Jo Ann Deputy with 1152 pins.

McCarthy to Lead Beaverhead Legion Banquet Plans

Jay V. McCarthy was named in charge of arrangements for a banquet honoring Beaverhead county selective service board at Beaverhead post of the American Legion. The event, with Legion and Auxiliary members present, will be held next month. Hugo Kencke and Mrs. Thelma Thurston plan to attend. W L McDowell will receive Purple Heart and Silver Star. Bergeson Reports on Legislative Setup at Dillon Chamber

O A Bergeson, chairman of the legislative committee, addressed the Dillon Chamber of Commerce board last Monday on the Beaverhead county and Montana State Normal College legislative plans. He recently returned from a Helena legislative meeting. Dillon Chamber plans for 1943 were discussed, with Pres S E Whitworth leading the session.

Sugar Stamp No 11 Becomes Valid Feb 1

OPA officials announce that sugar stamp No 11 will become valid February 1 and allow three pounds of sugar until March 15. Stamp No 10 remains valid for three pounds during a similar period and expires at midnight January 31.

Dillon Elks Plan Charter Night Celebration

Dillon lodge No. 1554 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks plans Charter Night at its January 26 meeting in the I.O.O.F. hall. Instituted May 18, 1929, the lodge has a strong state and national presence and drum corps. Members past and present are urged to attend for special entertainment and a good time, per Exalted Ruler Emery Smith and officers.

Morse Elected Director At Montana Woolgrowers Meet

Howard Morse was re-elected a director of the Montana Livestock Credit association at the Montana Woolgrowers convention in Billings. Sylvan Paul of Deer Lodge was elected to succeed W. G. Gilbert of Dillon as president. Attendees from Dillon included W. G. Gilbert and several residents, with others from Polaris Dell Alder and surrounding communities present.

Oil Tanker Upsets Near Grasshopper Creek South of Dillon

An oil tanker of Home Oil of Great Falls turned over near Grasshopper creek as it pours into Beaverhead south of Dillon last Thursday. The trailer separated from the truck and slid down the embankment, rupturing the tank and leaking gasoline. The vehicle was towed to Dillon for repairs.

Beaverhead Selective Service Draft Call February 1

A new Beaverhead county draft registration batch is called for February 1 with seven Army volunteers. Registrants depart January 31 for Dillon area reporting then travel to Butte for medical exams and a Fort Douglas Utah induction. Notables include Ralph G. Smith and Elijah F Patterson among Dillon men.
