The Montana irrigation commission released its annual report detailing county by county irrigation work, pumping possibilities, and the potential for larger plants. It cites an 1920 survey on areas irrigated and candidates for development, notes many small pumps operate with low lift, and discusses costs and returns required for viable irrigation projects. The report also presents figures on land under irrigation and future development, totaling 6,288,517 acres.

What Shall the Farmer Raise This Year

Hog prices have fallen about one and a half years after peaking in August 1919 while cattle prices show a likely rise within the next year or two. Wheat acreage fell 27 percent last year and may drop further if prices stay low, while potatoes remain cheap this winter. The main point is to plan next year by probabilities, not current prices, and focus on lowering production costs.

Montana hay growers seek 50 percent freight reduction

Montana farmers and the Cascade County Farm Bureau and Great Falls Commercial club petitioned for a 50 percent cut in hay freight charges to markets west of the mountains and the Midwest. If approved, half the current freight would unlock vast surpluses for cash sale, with Kansas City and other midwest points showing strong demand. The plan includes streamlined application and plate distribution to speed shipments.
