Horse Prairie Soil Restoration Plan Outlined By BLM
Last Friday district manager Fied Benson and range conservationist Dale Dunn met Beaverhead Soil Conservation District directors to explain the BLM soil and moisture program. The work in Horse Prairie Grainage targets rehabilitating degraded areas with a long range plan for federal range. Over the coming years the plan calls for sagebrush destruction and reseeding of about 13 000 acres and brush eradication on another 4 000 acres by burning chemical and mechanical methods. A contract to eradicate sagebrush on 1100 acres with little grass will be done this spring and reseeded in fall with grazing protection until grasses establish.

French Drain Hydraulics Clear Dillon Corner Pond
The Davis Motors corner on North Washington street gained a new French drain that emptied a large pond in minutes. Bert Megquier and his street crew watched as water from both streets drained into a nine foot deep filter basin. The project follows earlier drains on Bannack street near the alley to Idaho and Washington, connected to catch and settling basins aiding drainage from the Public Library area. Megquier notes the newer basins allow easier periodic cleaning and acknowledges cost as a factor in extending drains to all trouble spots.
