First Ballot On Senator Taken In Helena

Helena January reports show Republicans and Democrats trading votes for United States senator with Thomas Carter Walsh and Conrad leading in the first ballot. Carter leads with 31 votes, Walsh 28, Conrad 18 and 23 scattering. tomorrow’s ballots to break the deadlock as committees set in.

Booster Smith Prepares Major Horse Sale

Elizabth Bryan Weds Ernest Hood in Dillon Home Ceremony

Miss Elizabeth Bryan married Ernest Hood of Melrose last Monday at the bride’s mother’s home on South Ida ho street. Rev Culver officiated with immediate relatives present and a wedding dinner served. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Bryan and has lived in Dillon for years. The groom works for Jos Vanney the sheep man in Melrose. They plan to reside in Melrose.

Marriages Births and Deaths of 1910 Report

The county clerk issued 82 marriage licenses in 1910 up from 79 in 1909 with February leading at 12. There were 96 births 51 boys 45 girls and 76 deaths. Dozens of entries list individual births and marriages across Dillon Polaris Lima Armstead Fort Belknap and surrounding communities with dates in 1910.

Beaverhead County High hosts a night school entering its second month of a four month term. Seventeen students attend three weekly sessions each Monday Wednesday and Thursday at seven. Low tuition invites young men and women to pursue daytime work while gaining practical subjects and a full high school course in a short time.

High School Hoop Clash At Opera House Saturday

On Saturday January 14 Dillon residents will witness a top tier basketball game at the Opera House pitting Anaconda High School against the local Beavers. Anaconda is regarded as a state championship contender with seasoned players, while Beaverhead has strengthened with new plays and good form. The Dillon band may play during halves and interludes. Student admission for high school Normal and public school students is 50 cents.

Deputy Sheriff Resignations Shuffle Line of Duty

Under Sheriff Al C. Gruwell resigned to Sheriff Gosman effective immediately. D. W. Doc Erwin appointed to Gruwell’s post. W. T. Scully succeeds Erwin as deputy sheriff and assumed duties yesterday.

Train Hold-Up Report Traced To Quarry Workers

A false alarm near Daly's Spur caused Sheriff Gosman and deputies to pursue a train hold-up in error. Engineer George Baker saw three men with a weapon. shots in the air led to a posse chase, but quarry workers were the culprits, firing as a greeting. Peace returned after the mistaken scare.

Horse School Opens at Bozeman Agricultural College

January 23 to 28 horse school at the Agricultural College Bozeman promises a large attendance with free clinics and prizes for top horse judges. Dr. Welch of Cornell assists Dr. Taylor. Gallatin county farmers urged to bring horses for free diagnoses and demonstrations.
