Beef Market Outlook in Beaverhead County Big Hole Basin
Beaverhead county reports about 12 000 beef steers and 6 000 fat cows in feed pens across local ranches. Contracts set 7 1/2 cents for steers and 5 cents for fat cows with average returns near 90 and 60 dollars respectively. About 75 cattlemen feed in the Big Hole basin with 80 percent fattened on wild hay. Total local payments expected around one and a half million dollars.

Anaconda high school beat Beaverhead 12 to 7 after rough play and slow scoring. Flick led Anaconda with 8 of his team’s 12 points while Douglas Thomas stood out for Dillon. Officers for the coming year include J H Gilbert as president W G Gilbert as vice president and W C Jennings as cashier at the First National with a slate of directors led by B J Bowman. The Beaverhead Security consolidation kept Frank Landon as president and a slate of vice presidents cashier and directors unchanged.

Car Crash Kills C. W. Scott In Montana Basin
Pioneer businessman and rancher Charles W. Scott of Dillon Montana died when his car left a sharp bend and plunged over an embankment near Frying Pan basin. The accident, likely caused by a broken truss rod, left his nephew Clyde Scott to discover the wreck. Scott leaves a wife Elmo Jaquette and four children. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Odd Fellows assisting.

Mother of Seven Dies After Birth in Barrett Hospital
Caroline Staten wife of William Staten died Monday morning at Barrett hospital after giving birth to her seventh child. The new baby survived. The Statens recently moved to Madison county from Idaho and leased a ranch near Twin Bridges. The deceased was about 40 years old and born in Grantville Utah. The community deeply mourns.

Miss Dorchester Dies on Christmas Day in Dexter
Miss Delia Dorchester died Christmas day at her sister’s home in Dexter New York. An intestinal trouble caused her death and services were held in Dexter. A longtime Dillon public school teacher she arrived in Dillon in 1902 as an eighth grade critic and taught until ill health forced retirement about a year ago. Born in New York she had lived there about 27 years and was about 60.

Mrs. Sarah Terry, a former Dillon resident and matron, died in Butte after a brief illness. Funeral held Friday in Butte from her daughter 731 West Granite Street. Born August 18, 1862 in Missouri, she traveled west with her parents to Virginia City in 1865. She leaves three daughters and several siblings.

Salt Lake Firm Secures Beaverhead Bridge Contract
At a special city council session Friday evening the American Bridge Company won the bid to build a waterworks pipeline bridge over the Beaverhead River west of town. The bid was 7 711, the lowest of two offers from American Bridge Company and McGuire Blakeslee of Great Falls. Construction will start soon after the council’s regular meeting the prior Wednesday.
