William J. McMann 61, WWI veteran, died from gangrene after a broken hip while confined in a timber cabin 17 miles from Wisdom. Found by Fritz Walchly after failing to take monthly supplies. Sheriff and coroner estimate death occurred after Feb 2, possibly from a falling tree. Survived by brothers George and another in Spokane. born Nebraska.

Thelma Talent Cutler 36 wife of Homer Cutler died suddenly this morning in a Pocatello hospital after a two day illness. Born December 16 1910 in Missoula she lived in Beaverhead county and Idaho teaching on the Fort Hall reservation. Survived by husband a daughter her parents Mr and Mrs Jay Talent of Dell three brothers Ernst Henry and J P Talent and extended family. Funeral Saturday at 2 p m from the Dillon Methodist church with Rev Omer Idso officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery.

Red Cross Campaign Opens Saturday in Beaverhead County

Beaverhead County will launch its Red Cross membership drive next Saturday with rural districts first and Dillon starting Monday. Volunteers are forming in all areas to enroll every resident, with Dorothy Embleton rural chair and Roy Forester Jr. in charge of city efforts.

Robert Joy 87 longtime Beaverhead county rancher died Saturday in a Butte hospital where he had been admitted days earlier He died on his 87th birthday Born February 22 1860 in Ohio he came to Beaverhead county in 1872 and lived on his Reichle stock ranch for decades He is survived by his wife Cora E Barbour two daughters Mrs Joe Pace and Mrs Pearl Mittelmeier a son Lee Joy and many grandchildren Funeral services were held at Brundage Funeral Home with Christian Science rites and interment followed

About thirty members of Butte Pup Tent Order of Cooties and Silver Bow VFW group attended Lloyd Whipple post meeting without notice. Commander Don Campbell led a brief business session and a membership drive was launched to culminate in an anniversary class for National Commander Starr. Elks Hold Large Lima Initiation Meeting

Dillon lodge No. 1554 initiated 45 candidates in Lima with Exalted Ruler John W. Walters leading a 50-member delegation of Elks and ladies. The event in Ford hall featured the reorganized drum and bugle corps debuting with street and hall exhibitions and acting as escort for candidates from the Merrill hotel to the hall.

Miss Gleed Crowned Mardi Gras Queen at State University

Bernice Gleed of Dillon was chosen queen of the annual Mardi Gras ball on February 15 at the state university. Coeds and campus men from sororities fraternities and residence halls competed for queen and king titles. Gleed, a 1948 Beaverhead high school graduate, is a university music school sophomore and Newman club member which sponsored the festival.

Be Safe Saddle Hunt Yields Near The Limit

Sheriffs Paul H Temple of Beaverhead County and Roy Riley of Big Horn County along with Pete Hanks conducted a 1800 mile search across Oregon Washington and Idaho last week. They inspected over 30 cities and recovered nearly a dozen stolen saddles from Beaverhead Big Horn ranches and South Dakota losses since January. The effort began after six saddles were stolen from Horse Prairie ranches around January 30 and led to a Beaverhead county jail display of the recovered loot.

Beaverhead Christmas Seal Sale Sets Record Total

Beaverhead county raised 1635.91 for the Montana Tuberculosis Association led by county chairman Mrs. Sheldon E. Davis. After 40.06 in expenses, 1595.85 was sent to the state organization, up from 1315.37 last year. Seals brought 1464.90 and pencils 98.50, with 72.51 from combined booth sales.

Benjamin Hart Dies Sudenly in Dillon Office

Benjamin Hart aged 80, long time Centennial valley rancher, died suddenly Monday at a local physician's office from a heart attack. Born December 7, 1866 in New York, he moved to Montana 60 years ago and lived in the Centennial valley before moving to Dijon. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm from Brundage chapel with Rev. Edna Blackburn officiating. interment Mountain View cemetery. He leaves three sons and daughters-in-law in Dillon, Fairbanks, Seattle, Anaconda, eight grandchildren, and other relatives in Wisconsin and Madison county.

Richard Stone, 82, Beaverhead county resident for nearly 50 years, died Friday morning at the county hospital after a fall caused fracture hips. Born in Connecticut on April 7, 1863, he came to Beaverhead in 100 and worked mainly as a ranch hand and herder. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Brundage Funeral Home with Rev. J. Thompson Baker of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
