Helena February 9 Many Montana school districts face the same issue as Chicago with rising teacher value and inadequate levies. Chicago boards admit teachers' worth but tax limits cap salaries. a $2500 proposed grade teacher salary is out of reach and an appeal to the governor is noted.
The Chicago school board advises governor Lowden that teacher pay has fallen behind purchasing power as living costs rise. President Davis argues salaries must match other human services and reflect training, with districts urged to study living expenses to set adequate, statewide wage levels.
New rule by Director Cholmeley Jones with Secretary Glass approval lets former service men reinstate lapsed or canceled War Risk Insurance before July 1 1920 by paying two monthly premiums and proving health at discharge. Reinstatement windows vary by time since discharge with conditions and physician reports. Conversion and expanded beneficiary options are announced, plus a health-claim advert for Dr H H Scarborough at Andrus Hotel Dillon on Feb 24.
