New 13-Foot Pipe Line Powers Madison River Plant
The Montana Power Company completed a new 13 foot diameter wood stave pipe line to replace two old lines. The 7,505 foot conduit provides about 12,000 horsepower and a 115 foot head at Meadow Lake. Demolition of the old lines occurred in two months, with construction from May 15 to December 1, 1925, employing around 75 men and using salvaged steel bands and an on site electric butt welding setup. A Seattle submarine diver assisted at the dam to rebuild intake screens without draining the lake.
