Buildings on Arthur Bay farm burn near Dillon

A fire swept through the Arthur Bay farm near Dillon on Kentucky Avenue early Monday, destroying a large barn and a granary after a shed fire likely sparked by a short circuit. Beaverhead County firefighters with Rotarians battled for four hours, saving the ranch home and feed lots. losses run into the hundreds of dollars.

Vets Attend District Meeting in Helena February 23

Beaverhead county posts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars plan full representation at District No. 4 encampment in Helena on Sunday February 23. A banquet from 6 30 to 8 30 p m will honor about 30 Gold Star mothers with speeches by dignitaries. Business session runs 1 30 to 5 p m with intermissions from 5 to 6 30 p m and 8 30 to 9 p m followed by a dance in the new V F W Hall. Official Lloyd Whipple post delegates to be named at the next regular meeting.

Veterans of Foreign Wars to Institute New Post at Jackson

Beaverhead county gains a new Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Jackson with a charter group of 40 or more from the Big Hole area. Lloyd Whipple post in Dillon will conduct the ceremony with possible attendance by state officers. if unavailable, Dan Henneberry will lead. Delegations from Lima and Dillon plan to participate and membership remains open through the night of the institution. The Jackson post will help form a Beaverhead county council of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Eagles gained four points after Ex-Sheriffs forfeited to tie Bond's for first in the Commercial league at Dillon Bowling Center. Dillon to Host State Meet Next Year

Miss Elena Slepcevich, girls physical education supervisor at the Normal college, announced Dillon will host the next state meeting of the Montana Association of Health Physical Education and Recreation. Slepcevich returns from the Missoula conference where she served as secretary-treasurer and was elected state vice-president. She was named Montana's official delegate to the national convention in Seattle April 21 to 26 and will chair the pre-convention dance conference for Montana.

Well-Known Beaverhead Rancher Patrick Laden Dies

Patrick Laden, 74, longtime Beaverhead valley rancher since 1900, died Monday night at Barrett hospital after ten days as a patient. Born in Ireland October 1, 1872, he came to the United States 54 years ago and settled on the ranch south of Dillon. Survived by three sons, two daughters-in-law, a sister in Ireland, a sister-in-law in Dillon, and one granddaughter. Funeral to be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St Rose church with Rev Timothy Clifford. interment in Mountain View cemetery. Rosary tonight at 8 at Brundage chapel.

Farm Bureau session held in Beaverhead Feb 8

Beaverhead county four Farm Bureaus met in the city council chambers with state leaders including Claude C. Gray and Mrs. Harold Wright. Wendell Jardine became county president. Driver Permits And Licenses By Sunday Demanded

Next Saturday Feb 15 is the deadline for purchase of car licenses and drivers permits says Robert Wright state highway patrolman. He will issue summons to owners not displaying 1947 stickers and to drivers without permits starting Sunday Feb 16. Stickers go on the lower right windshield corner. Out of state operators employed or bona fide Montana residents must have Montana licenses and permits.

Beaverhead Beavers Beat Deer Lodge 49 47 then lose to Sheridan 45 44

Beaverhead county high school Beavers edged Deer Lodge 49 47 in a tense Friday game, overcoming a 9 0 deficit and trailing at halftime. The following night Sheridan narrowly defeated the Beavers 45 44, with Beavers missing multiple chances to tie or take the lead in the final minute. Sheridan advances to the district tournament opening next Thursday.

District 16 Class B Tournament Opens This Week

Eight teams converge at Beaverhead County High School for the District 16 tournament February 20 to 22. Anaconda Central faces Virginia City at 2:30 PM, Twin Bridges vs Harrison at 3:30 PM, Sheridan vs Whitehall at 8:00 PM, and Dillon vs Ennis in the opening round. Losers play consolation Friday. Thursday winners meet Friday winners in semi finals.

Margaret Mansfield Grant, a 1944 Beaverhead county high school alumna, is cast in Murder and Old Lace in a state university one act program during winter quarter. Young People Observe World Day of Prayer in Dillon
