Bannack Montana once a bustling mining camp to ghost town
Bannack sat at Grasshopper valley with mountains for protection. Gold discovered July 1862 by John White sparked a rush, with Henry Plummer leading road agents and a violent vigilante response. The town served as Montana’s first state capital in 1864 before Virginia City took the honor.
