Correction in Memoirs column about ranch purchase and 1907 turmoil
J W Sutherland corrects a previous item naming Sam Peterson instead of Sam Patterson as buyer of the Romain ranch. Orin Paige led operations in October 1907 during a horse auction that included a horse named Johnnie. The piece ties to Birch Dale stock sale and Beaverhead Ranch Co. through Al Padsinger, Clark Anderson, and W C Om. It recalls 1907 Wall Street panic and Theodore Roosevelt’s warning, plus Bryan Taft politics and Pollinger the auctioneer’s Irish joke.
