Forest reserves urged to protect watersheds and prosperity
The National Mining congress at Portland and the National Live Stock association at Denver pressed for forest reserves to conserve water sources for irrigation. They argued reserves balance settler, cattle, miner, lumberman, and irrigator interests, with strict management and prohibition on timber sales on unreserved land to ensure long term forest and farm prosperity.
