1954 Forest Fire Record Low Burned Acreage in Northwest
MISSOULA December 3 1954 report by Regional Forester P D Han cites the 1954 season as the lowest burned acreage since 1920 on national forest lands in Montana Northern Idaho and Northeastern Washington. The 731 fires burned 842 acres, below the five year average, with few man caused fires and strong prevention efforts across state and private agencies. The Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station notes record low fire danger in July August and favorable weather aided suppression.
