End of Fire Season in Region Costs and Cooperation Rise
Snow ends the fire season in the National Forest District No. 1 covering Idaho north of Salmon River and adjacent states. Total extinguishing costs for the season run a little over $15,000, well below 1908. Increased patrols by forest guards, state wardens, lumber companies, railroads, and crews cut fires. over 2000 small fires were tamed in Coeur d Alene. The Kaniaku fire, hardest to reach, consumed much of the $10,000 share with ten miles of lines built and about 100 workers.
