Weekend vehicle crashes prompt local arrest warrants
Three accidents were reported over the weekend in the area with two cars in one smashup. Curley Todd and Phil Lyons of Lina faced reckless driving charges after colliding with G. E. German of Kansas City near Dell Sunday evening. They posted a settlement with Mr. German and were released Monday. Mrs. German sustained minor injuries. A blowout on the front tire is blamed for another early Monday crash on the Butte highway, when Ed Campbell of Idaho Falls lost control and wrecked into a cattle guard and ditch. The August session of Beaverhead County Board of Commissioners met August 6 and 7, 1928 with commissioners Anderson, Gosman, Shaw, and Acting Clerk Baker. The board approved minutes, and authorized road and bridge work, and inspections of county buildings for the coming month.

Dillon May Become Stop on Salt Lake Air Mail Route
W. S. Kenyon of the U S commerce department will speak at the Andrus hotel dining room after the Rotary luncheon tomorrow about making Dillon a stop on the Salt Lake to Great Falls air mail route. He says Dillon could meet the department standards with a few hundred dollars to upgrade the landing field, after which the air mail port would follow.

Beaverhead County Tax Levy Drops Nine Mills
Beaverhead county’s 1928 tax levy is set at 25.26 mills a decrease of nine mills from 1927, ranking among the state's lowest tax rates. Judge Henry G. Rodgers and George Allen of Virginia City failed to settle the Democratic nomination by lot after equal votes. Attorney General ruled the decision final by party procedures. James McKnight Sr Civil War Vet Passes at 92
James McKnight Sr a Civil War veteran and longtime Beaverhead County resident died near Dell at his son Smith McKnight's home Monday morning after an illness lasting about seven months. The obituary notes his age 92 and his standing in the community.

Butte Youths Sentenced for Auto Theft Attempt
Ernest Burns and Joseph Kelly of Butte were sentenced to 30 days in county jail by Judge Henry G. Rodgers after pleading guilty to attempting to use an automobile without the owner's consent. They were originally charged with attempted larceny when caught by Chief Nelson and Officer Bourquin in the act of starting a car owned by Frank Anangst.

Three Forest Fires Near Dillon Cause Little Damage
Three forest fires on ranges surrounding Dillon last week drew resident attention yet caused little damage. About 350 acres of brush and cut-over timber burned, with two fires smoldering for over a week. All fires were on public land outside Beaverhead National Forest, including a blaze on the Blacktail range south of Dillon.
