Scrap metal is needed to boost supplies and keep mills moving as refining new material is slower. With more farm machinery arriving, farmers are urged to deliver junked machines to scrap dealers to supply metal for future equipment. About half of farm machinery uses scrap metal.
Official count shows Leif Erickson leading Burton Wheeler for the Democratic nomination with 49,419 to 44,513 votes as Erickson gains 4,906 on Wheeler. Republican winner Zales N. Ecton collects 22,731 over R. E. Skeen's 11,226.
