Half Million in State Auto Fees Reported

Secretary of State Charles T. Stewart reports for the new state fiscal year that automobile registration fees from December 1 to June 3 totaled 530,876 dollars. Of that amount 530,649.50 came in March through June, with December 226.50 and zero in January and February. He notes the rise is from higher fees, not more cars, and says 10,000 or more Montanans may dodge payments. Fees for the first 15 days of July totaled 15,605 dollars, with revenues shared by counties and the state highway commission. Publicity on evasion prompted many reports from communities.
