Beaverhead county and Dillon, Montana emerge as a major sheep center in a July issue summary from American Sheepbreeder and Woolgrower. The Selway Sheep Company near Dillon expanded to 6,000 Hampshire ewes and 9,000 Cotswold-Merino cross range ewes, with high breeding standards. Beav erhead wool shipments topped three million pounds, prices reached 33 13 to 34 cents, and lambs sold at Monida for 7.50 per hundred with some breeders at 10 per head.

Preliminary figures from J. J. Ryan of the Montana state board of equalization indicate 31 counties report an increased assessed valuation of $33,779,171 over last year excluding railroads. Silver Bow leads gains at $18,814,645 with other counties posting over $1 million each. five counties show declines. If the remaining 10 counties mirror the trend, Montana’s total property value could reach about $475 million.
