Scholarship Drive Receives 700 From Local Businessmen
At the regu lar Town College committee meeting in the Oasis on Saturday noon the group reported that Dil Ion business men have pledged 700 to fund scholarships for worthy students next year. Scholarships will be distributed quarterly and a final roundup may exceed last year’s total. Notices of awards will go to high school principals soon. The meeting also discussed the bulletin on summer graduate work at Western Montana College of Education, part of a mailer to high school seniors and prospective summer students. Financing comes from the Lewis and Clark pageant funds and a Jaycee sponsored college movie festival. Attending were president Rush Jordan, Dr. John Cumming and Ralph Kneeland of Western, and George Brown, Dr. Robert English, and Secretary Marie Gibbons of the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce.

Treasurer of Cancer Unit to Resume Duties in Dillon

Wide Acreage Is Burned Over In Friday Fire
A swamp grass and brush fire burned across a strip over a quarter mile wide from the Chris Petersen ranch to the Cornell sheep sheds between the Union Ditch and railroad track Friday morning. It raged for about two hours and was controlled by rural firefighters and Bureau of Land Management units. Damage was mainly to fences as no buildings were touched. A large crowd watched the flames and smoke rise into a clear sky. Firefighters also used the new town truck earlier that night to dampen burning leaves near the college campus but did not deploy it.
