Sheriff C K Wyman and Deputy Dan Mooney escorted four men to Deer Lodge for state prison terms. West Pernicki King and Smith received 2 to 4 or 4 to 6 years for highway robbery and strongarming a Dell farmer. The men attempted a jail delivery before transfer. A separate damages suit by Steve Davis against Brearley and Williams yielded $1000. Civil cases and judge changes noted.

Frank Hazelbaker arranged the sale of the Joe Browne ranch on Rock Creek to Woods Livestock company. The 480 acre farming property near Browne's lakes will be used as a sheep ranch for twenty thousand dollars. Woods Livestock already operates several local ranches and recently bought the Phillips ranch Rattlesnake.

Gruesome Murder Suspected in Lima Discovery
A coroner's inquest in Lima concluded a stranger, likely an Irish hobo aged about 38 to 5, was murdered by a blunt blow to the forehead. The body, found in a half charred condition in a cinder car, was dumped with burning cinders to hide the crime and a death date around April 2 or 3.

The county courthouse opened a new jury room used last week by jurors who praised the addition. The third floor space features a large ventilated area with six built in sanitary beds at each end, hidden from view by day, and supplied with modern conveniences and neat furnishings.
Bulls Buy 25 Registered Shorthorn Bulls in Trade
Ted Ellis of Dubois Idaho purchased 25 head of registered Shorthorn bulls from Bert Williams. The animals came from the Gallagher herd of Lima.

Army Recruits Pass Exam from Dillon Boys
Word from Dillon boy recruits at Valier says they sat the army exam in Helena last week and all passed except Glen C Green. The men were vaccinated with typhoid anti toxin and while not feeling great after the test they enjoy life at the camp and train daily. The Dillon group is regarded as one of the huskiest and most enthusiastic units in Montana.

Lima Farmers Begin Major Planting Ahead of Season
Otto C. Gosman reports large tracts being broken in the south end of the county with seedling under way. If seed and coal issues are solved, Lima area could grow more acres than ever. Heat and coal delivery are to be arranged with the Short Line and the Montana State Council for Defense. The cold spell is breaking, snow and ice receding, and a bumper crop is predicted in Beaverhead's south end.

Garden plots are planned for a child led home farming drive
A Dillon spring effort supervised by Prof Light targets every school aged child from primary to training school in a home gardening crusade. Each pupil will be assigned up to a tenth of an acre, seed and ground provided, and harvests sold at market price to fund savings. Soldier Boy George Flynn Funeral Honor Passed
The seventeen year old recruit George Flynn died at Valier on April 15 from diabetes. His military funeral was held in Lima last Thursday with interment there. Seven Dillon recruits accompanied the casket from Valier to Lima, six serving as pallbearers.

Dillon Man Dies Friday in Dillon
Joseph Thompson, a 55 year old Dillon resident for twenty years, died last Friday afternoon at his South Pacific street home from a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Methodist church with Rev. H. G. Humphrey presiding. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. He is survived by a wife, his mother, and several brothers living in Townsend.
