The international joint basketball rules committee, meeting in New York, rejected abolishing the center jump. By 330 to 128 the vote favored retaining the center jump, with 215 having experimented with the proposed change. The key ruling also credits a field goal to a shooter fouled in the act if the goal is made.

The edition describes various rule updates impacting center jump usage and play timing. It notes limits on tap counts during jump balls, penalties for center-court violations, and how goals and fouls are treated after violations. It also requires the timer to start after the thrower releases the ball on free throws and caps high school overtime at three periods with a five minute intermission.
