The Montana extension service reports statewide weed control districts cover about 844 000 acres across seven counties. The 1940 law has now organized ten of thirteen districts, with four more counties planning districts this year. Control is mandatory in districts on the levy funded by local sources, while voluntary efforts fail to prevent cross‑infestation.
