Great Falls officials raid a moonshine operation led by George Pfeifel who admitted illicit distilling and selling to retailers at $8 to $10 a pint. He described the process while insisting he is the most honest bootlegger, warning of a brand that mixes formaldehyde for a kick. One drinker reportedly remained unconscious for four days.

Coulson Montana Ghost Town of a Yellowstone Boom That Was
The 1877 vision of Bud McAdow and Muggins Taylor turned Coulson into a bustling railroad hub with a post office saloon and stores. Gambling and fast money drew risk takers like Hibbard and Worley, but by June of 1881 land promotions by Heman Clark lured settlers away and Coulson faded to a ghost town, replaced by Billings as the new center.
