Glendale and Hecla mine tale from Montana history
The Hecla mine near Glendale produced at peak in 1882 16 000 a month in dividends while the smelter ran until 1900. The Conway family led by Mr. Conway lived in Glendale for 16 years and later moved to Dillon and Helena where he served as state accountant from 1909 to 1918. The mine later closed amid litigation and Glendale became a ghost town. The article notes the district’s rich ore, past production, and hopes for future silver lead mining when prices recover. It also lists Conway family members and descendants.
