Missoula University Campus Grants and State Funding
Missoula leaders and legislators debated siting for a state university in the northwest area of the city. Donors E. L. Bonner and Frank Higgins offered 40 acres for the campus, while a $15 000 tax was proposed to complete a university building and open the institution. The 1895 opening, celebrated September 5, attracted modest local attention as President Craig led the event.
