Swift Justice For Crossmatt

A man using the name Ralph Bishop acted as an agent for the Great Northern at Lawton. The Lawton depot books and records were burned, a subsequent embezzlement case led to Crossman being captured at Grand Forks. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison. He had prior railroad work under different aliases at Buford and White Earth. Authorities say the loss may exceed $500.

Serious Accident Narrowly Averted at Boiler Plant

A near catastrophe at the improvement company's ene ast plant was averted when water and steam escaped from a boiler under 125 pounds of pressure. Fire Devastates Fourth Street Tavern and Halgren Shop

A fierce blaze on Fourth Street caused by a leaking gasoline stove igniting oil led to explosions of a stove tank and a gasoline can. The interior was engulfed in flames within minutes, Halgren’s tailoring shop nearby caught fire, and most property was lost or damaged with no insurance for occupants. The one story frame building, owned by P DeFiore and insured for 500 dollars, suffered additional losses estimated at 1000 dollars.
