Lake Region Mid Winter Fair Planned in Devils Lake

January dates for the Lake Region Mid Winter Fair in Devils Lake are being finalized with Farmers Institute ties in Fargo and Grand Forks. Counties Cavalier Wilson Ramsey Benson Towner Rolette and Pierce will exhibit with prizes, plus a farmers convention and lectures from agricultural colleges. Exhibits include Bert Totten Indians and Indian school State School for the Deaf and Devils Lake public schools. Senator Henry Hale leads the effort aiming to make it an annual event with broader regional booster impact.

Silk Train Breaks Continent Crossing Records

The Great Northern silk train sped across the continent in forty five hours and twenty minutes to set a new time mark. Four silk cars, three fish cars, and a U S postal car formed the train which left Seattle at 4 45 Friday and arrived St Paul at 4 05 Sunday. Conductor Rhodes and Engineer Carlson led the Devils Lake leg with Conductor McInnis and Engineer Beckett guiding fastest Breckenridge division run on engine 1014.

Soo Railroad to Rush New Line Through Devils Lake

The Soo railroad plans to rush construction on a new cut-off through Devils Lake to Drake, with materials held at Fordville to speed early work. Charles G. Sturtevant, assistant general solicitor, and attorneys reviewed contracts while Devils Lake and the line anticipate swift completion once surveys and right of way are secured.

Ancient cane for pres Taft presented in Spokane

During Taft’s visit to Spokane he received two canes of wood claimed to be over 250000 years old. The timber was found near Alberta by W S Foster of Spokane and is said to have formed before the glacial period.
