Creamery movement eyed for Devils Lake area
The United Creamery Co. of Fargo plans to send a representative to Devils Lake to gauge support for a central creamery with skimming stations under the Australian system. The plan promises farmers higher milk payments based on butter fat, with 80 percent of skimmed milk returned to farmers and cream shipped daily to the central plant. Minnesota dairy data are cited to argue the economic benefit, urging North Dakota farmers to diversify from wheat to dairying and buy into a cooperative creamery network.
