The Old Settlers Annual Picnic at Dry Lake drew many residents despite threatening weather. Richard Daely judged races won by Pred Crafts Timbo Ed Baker and others. Miss Hazel McCaulay led the young ladies race while Senator Hansbrough and Representative Davis spoke on Ramsey county's pioneer era.

A limited passenger train on the Lake line wrecked in a terrible accident. Reports describe a disastrous collision and multiple injuries as rescuers rush to the scene.
Shore train wreck on Mentor switch kills Chicago men
A Chicago to New York rail service, covering 18 hours, derailed after hitting an open switch at Mentor Ohio last Thursday. Fifteen prominent Chicago and New York businessmen died and many were injured. E B Naugle of Chicago died, husband of Minnie Heerman of Devils Lake and former Great Northern agent in this city. Captain E E Heerman immediately left for Chicago to comfort his daughter.

Ends in a Fitting Climax
Thursday evening the teachers and invited guests enjoyed a reception in Odd Fellow's hall to close the instructional week. Superintendent Norton organized the affair and received many compliments. A third of the crowd arrived late from the Chautauqua grounds but the dancing and music by Tony Prete and Chas Turner kept them entertained. Refreshments were served and the group dispersed after a lively informal night supervised by the host.

New Town of Ohmstead Named at Crossing Area
The town at the crossing of the Farmers' road and the Soo will be named Ohmstead, not Lakeview, honoring the landowner. Mr Ohmstead has applied for a post office and a fine town will grace the prairies there in a short time.

Miraculous Farm Lightning Escape Near Clark Kel ley Farm
At the Clark W. Kel ley farm south of town the Holly couple slept as a lightning bolt struck the chimney and tore bricks from the wall within inches of them. Mrs. Holly escaped unharmed while Albert Holly suffered facial cuts and a bruised head and received medical attention in town.

Annual Field Trials Meet Across Iowa and North Dakota
