Chautauqua Opens Amid Weather Delays and Talent
The Chautauqua opening day faced clouds and a shower delaying the Old Settlers reunion at 2:30 on the military reserve by the road. The day featured a Midsummer Night's Dream performance and an auditorium meeting to form a Ramsey County Old Settlers Association. Performers Miss Wilmer, Miss Carswell, Miss Barber and others earned praise for talent despite amateur status. The Manning College players departed, while attendees from Grand Forks to Grafton filled Hotel Oakwood and lingered for the event's lively entertainments. The scene included the Indian band, piano solos, hornpipe, and a brisk social atmosphere amid ongoing construction on the grounds.
