Devils Lake men fail to land Canadian acres at $4 bid
A Devils Lake party returned from Assiniboia Canada after hoping to buy a 15 section township of railroad lands advertised from 3 50 to 6 per acre. Winnipeg raised the price to 5 per acre and land rules required specified improvements. The region near North Portal to Moose Jaw holds little suitable land and high freight costs deter wheat farmers from selling grain across the line. The writers fault the Canadian Pacific Railway for unsatisfactory dealings and predict immigrants will return to North Dakota.
