The Chautauqua Railway and Capt E E Heerman arranged a free outing for over two hundred city children. The group rode to the Chautauqua grounds by train and enjoyed a three hour steamer ride, picnic dinner, and thanks from organizers. The day united pastors, teachers, and scholars in a joyful, incident-free event on August 13, 1900.
