Mayor William J. Gaynor of New York was shot from behind aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse en route to Europe for an eight month vacation. The assailant, Jules James Gallagher, a former city official, was arrested after a struggle in which five shots were fired. one hit the mayor, another wounded a man who helped capture Gallagher. Humane Charge Against Hugh McMillan For Animal Cruelty

The Board of Education met Tuesday evening at clerk A. D B. Parshall’s office. Bids were opened for a high pressure boiler, plumbing in the high school, and coal for the year. Devils Lake Plumbing and Heating Co. won the boiler job at 1325 dollars, Joe Jilik won the plumbing at 867 dollars, and Stevens Grain & Fuel Co. was awarded coal supply. One-half dozen cut glass sherberts sold at 1.75 dollars at Huesgen's.
