Michigan Settlement Near Bartlett Draws Newsettlers
Orson C Newbre a Mi plan member and about fifteen families moved twelve miles north of Bartlett last July. They settled the northern county region and did a large amount of breaking. They built good houses and prepared for permanent residence and express satisfaction with Dakota.

Chief Engineer N D Miller and assistants arrive with contractors and five hundred graders expected next week to push the Manitoba road northwest toward Duluth. Survey results to decide route, with depots and piers contracts for Duluth, and extensions planned to connect Devils Lake and Great Falls.

Turtle Mountain surveying line aims toward Bottineau
A survey party plans a northwesterly route about 40 miles west toward Bottineau along the Ensign map line for the Devils Lake land district with Bottineau as the target. Local residents are hopeful for relief though cautions remain about heavy investments based on these preliminary indications. Dennis Moran reports cattle on Turtle Mountain wintered well, living outdoors on hay. Supper at M E Church on April 27 offers cold ham roast beef pressed veal jellies cakes and tea at six. An ice cream and cake service follows the next evening.

A Stock Show Meeting Forms Three Day Event Plan
Citizens gather at the rink to organize a stock company for a three day stock show and races in July. Frank Shaw chairs, H C Hansbrough secretary, with a broad committee under leaders across Devils Lake and Ramsey County to solicit stock subscriptions and arrange race track enclosures and land donations.
