Washington April 2 Senator Hansbrough chairman of the senate public lands committee opposed western railroads urging repeal of public land laws except the homestead act. He argued desert land and commutation laws are essential for irrigation and orderly settlement, citing North Dakota and Montana cases, and warned that repeal would favor land corporations over honest homeseekers.
