Crystal Wedding marks 15th anniversary celebration

Starkweather Times reports the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard D. Maurer opened Friday evening for their fifteenth wedding anniversary. Guests received cut glass, speeches recalled the couple’s bachelor days, and prosperity. A bounteous supper followed with music by Mrs. Simpson, Mrs. Anderson, and Mr. Eich using an Edison phonograph. Notable attendees included E. 8 Eich, F. N. Maurer, Davis, Morgan Simpson, Mclarty, Myron King, Brigham, Briggs, Buck, Anderson, DeHart, Black, McDermott, Tiemeyer, Will Davis, A. J. McLarty, Seymour, Resler, Dr. Fawcett, Williams, Maurer, Johnny Buck, and many Misses and others.

Moses Kalof Not Guilty In burglary trial

The district court trial against Moses Kalof for burglary at the Creel residence on January 2 ended with a not guilty verdict after a protracted hearing. A single witness for the state identified Kalof, while defense witnesses established an alibi that placed him at a farewell party at John Kalof’s home during the alleged crime. States Attorney Anderson led the prosecution, Burke defended the accused, and the crowded courtroom drew many spectators, including many women.

Game wardens appointed in North Dakota

Governor White named new appointees to the State Board of Pardons and Board of Dental Examiners. G. F. McDonald becomes vice president of the Board of Health. G. F. Erakine and C. A. Hale named game wardens for districts one and two. District 1 includes Pembina to Wallace counties. District 2 covers the rest of the state. Hale described as a sportsman with a strong interest in enforcing game laws and preserving game.

Great Northern may extend branch to Northfield Hamden town planned

Reports from Edmore suggest the Great Northern road will extend its Edmore branch at least twelve miles this summer, creating a new town named Hamden. Rumors of moving Northfield appear partly true, with plans to push the line toward the northern part of Towner county between Langdon and Cando branches. A surveyor in town northbound said final orders were pending for the extension and for the Sonris line and a branch leaving the main line at Granville.

Stone claims under Timber and Stone Act win at Devils Lake

The local land office at Devils Lake ruled that stone claims on lands with many boulders and some limestone are valid under the Timber and Stone Act. Several such filings occurred in the western region last year, this being the first state decision. The case will be appealed to the commissioner of the General Land Office. Attorneys were C. W. Buttz of Minnewaukan and Scramgård & Moen.

Tragedy at Minot Depot Ends in Instant Death

Minot North Dakota March 2 morning a man identified as LaPorte running a clothing store for George Platky of Grand Forks crossed the tracks at Great Northern depot. No. 3 freight train entering the yard struck him as it came tearing in. the man was killed instantly with his head severed from the body.

Cando Man Held On Rape Charge

George Burghes of Cando was jailed after sheriff custody on a charge of raping a fourteen year old girl in the city. The girl's father filed the complaint. the case has aroused strong local concern. The girl's name is not given.

OFF TO THE PENITENTIARY FOR LIFE AND SHORTER TERMS

Sheriff Rutten and deputies transported Dan Maloney, Albert Stoeser, and William Payton to Bis marck penitentiary. Maloney received a life sentence, Stoeser two years, and Payton one year. The transfer progressed without incident and the prisoners were handed to the warden. A separate classified ad promotes sale of the Lapham farm near Webster, Minnesota, with flexible payment terms.
