The Intergovernmental Coordination Subcommittee meets at Sandestin Beach Resort at 9 a.m. It may recommend designating an Area of Critical State Concern, a move that must proceed to the state Department of Community Affairs and then to the governor and Cabinet on Oct. 7.

Five Rescued After Boat Capsizes South of Destin
Five men were rescued Thursday afternoon after their boat capsized about 10 miles south of Destin. The Coast Guard received a distress call at 12:28 p.m. and, after losing contact, was joined by the Para-Rescue Squadron from Eglin. Rescued were James Humphrey of Niceville, Vic Grahn of Bluewater Bay, Pete Caldarell of Fort Walton Beach, Tom Perrot of Niceville, and Edward Perrot of Evergreen.

Health official closes Spring Lake in Okaloosa County
Okaloosa County Environmental Health Director Doug Sims announced that Spring Lake will be closed to swimming and fishing for the rest of the summer due to water samples showing bacteria and fecal coliform counts above safe levels. The lake, found contaminated in late August, remains untested until next year and is blamed in part on duck droppings. Five new salmonella cases were reported this week in the county.

Destin Planning Commission unanimously recommends approval for the Riviera Plaza Hotel project a 944 unit development on 15 acres between U S 98 and the Gulf adjacent to Holiday Beach Resort. Final Destin City Council approval awaited with construction target set for March 1988, phase one to start soon with a 17 story tower of 444 units and extensive amenities.

DWU Checks Water Tanks For Flaws Destin Tanks Under Scrutiny
Destin Water Users inspects two water tanks to ensure structural soundness after a Pensacola tank rupture last month. Both Destin tanks built by Brown Steel face scrutiny. one on Kelly Street and another at the Airport Road treatment plant. The Pensacola failure cited two weak points: faulty bolts on a decorative skirt and broken welds on the catwalk. No injuries occurred and replacement cost is estimated at one million dollars.
