Park Renaming Hearing Set for Calhoun to Clement E Taylor
Okaloosa County plans a public hearing in about one month on renaming Calhoun Park to Clement E Taylor. Destin resident Willie Mae Taylor proposes the change to honor her father-in-law, Destin’s first school teacher, noting the park was never officially named and was sold to the county in 1961 for 21 700 dollars. Commissioner Mike Mitchell notes lingering reluctance but acknowledges locals will still call it Calhoun Park.
