Destin zoning group forms to address growth and funds
Shahid says the effort requires all organizations to participate. Runnels notes funding gaps for parks and roads as Destin remains the county tax base. A first meeting with about 35 members is planned in two weeks. The group asks the County Board of Commissioners to appoint a member to review zoning. Commissioners had agreed to hire a consultant to study zoning on the Destin peninsula and advise on future growth.

Walton County oppose new line at July hearings
Walton county officials and Sandestin developers opposed the proposed line at hearings in DeFuniak Springs and Santa Rosa Beach. Tom Patton said the line would affect resort developments planned with the old line in mind. County Commissioner Billy McLean called the commission unanimously opposed due to undue hardship on builders. Maps and surveys will be displayed at the Walton County Courthouse and Santa Rosa Fire Station starting Oct. 7, with cabinet meetings in November opened for public comment.
